Open forum on faculty advising issues
What do you see as the important issues faced by faculty advisors? Examples I often hear about include:
- How to motivate faculty, most of whom are already busy with their classroom and research responsibilities, to take advising seriously and do it well.
- How to help faculty understand that advising is more than just telling students which classes to take
- How to train a freshly-minted Ph.D. (or a ‘not-so-freshly’ minted one!) to be a good faculty advisor
